What is Amazon S3?

What Is Amazon S3?

Amazon S3 is a cloud storage where you can upload your data like photos, videos, documents etc. All that you need to do is to create a bucket in one of the AWS Regions. Any number of objects to the bucket can be uploaded then. It is designed to make web-scale computing easier for developers. Any developer can access the highly scalable, reliable, fast and competitive data storage infrastructure which Amazon uses to operate its own global network of websites.

How to implement?

S3 provides APIs to manage the resources(buckets and objects). For an example, you can create a bucket and objects can be uploaded using the Amazon S3 API, at the same time you can make use of S3 console to execute these operations. Requests can be sent to Amazon S3 from the console using Amazon S3 APIs. After a bucket is created, the name of that bucket cannot be used by another AWS account in any AWS Region until the bucket is deleted. The reason is an S3 bucket name is globally unique, and the namespace(addresses, file locations, etc) is shared by all AWS accounts. For availability or security verification purposes, you should not rely on specific bucket naming conventions.

The S3 lets you create buckets in the desired region you choose. Pick any AWS Region that is geographically close to you to optimize latency, minimize costs, or address regulatory requirements. If you reside in the US, you might find it advantageous to create buckets in the N. Virginia, Ohio, N. California, Oregon regions.
